Being a little less than 3 years in a place which in the books of Indian government is the “premier institute of information technology” but to the ones studying here is nothing more than a place which offers you a 5 years holiday but that holiday only recently has become a nightmare. Aamir Khan affirmed in his recently released film “Rang de Basanti” that inside the college gates u control ur life but outside it in this wicked world it controls you”. This seems true if u are in a college but not in XYZ college. When we joined here the realization came quite early that this place doesn’t even fit the definition of a college. No faculty which in turn mean no classes and whatever classes one has here are from the visiting faculty whose only interest to come here is to earn easy bucks when others are enjoying there weekends. So ironic is that some of my batch-mates are even thinking becoming visiting faculty of this self proclaimed “IIT plus IIM” when they passout. Some the teachers that come to enlighten us on weekends don’t even sit in the class for the time they are stipulated to , as and when they get their cheques they say thankyou , god know to the cashier or to us and make a move . Moreover our seniors had put in our minds that as you have made to XYZ college you are the cream of India. They ultimately led us to believe we are above the Indian educational system and one has to follow American education model to succeed in this modern world that calls for innovation , creativity rather than following the bookish laws . So whatever minimal lessons we were taught unfortunately we didn’t even read them and thought that reading from outside the curriculum wud benefit us more. And when , by the grace of god someone comes to take a class and teaches the basic fundamentals , no one goes to class as we think know the basics , and if he teaches something that calls for some attention ( means something difficult ) still no one goes as nobody can understand the hell out of it. The only thing that makes us go to the class is the marks on attendance but after 5 semesters ur CGPA ll not change drastically so 10-20 marks here and there don’t count that much , the result “we don’t go to class” . Until recently the only thing which we could boast of was our hostel which provided us single room accommodation right from day one and not to mention the 24 hour electricity supply . But in the early part of this year we were made to follow the 3-4 rule which puts 4 students in three rooms so as to accommodate the increase in the students . The students adjusted to this and also got their own internet connections after a long wait and also setup a LAN which connects almost the whole IPG and all was going well atleast in the hostel, but frequent power cuts and the recent shortage of water and has made even the stay in the hostel a horror. Moreover all the hype regarding the installation of the RO (reverse osmosis )plant has died down and theres not even pure water for us to drink one has to stand for atleast 20 minutes to fill a one liter bottle and only the almighty knows that it is drinkable or not.
Its not the college’s fault completely , the thing now is that we also don’t want to study . After nearly three years of no regular classes , assignments and lack of focus we have lost the will to learn. The only thing which is in our favour is that we came through an All India entrance examination and the recruiters know that inspite of five years here , we still have something left in us which can be of help to them.
But it’s the college fault more than it is ours , atleast in my books and this place is surely throwing intelligence and brilliance in the dustbin or in computer jargon I think it has been moved to recycle bin unless someone restores it , it ll be deleted forever.

First of all, it must be absolutely clear that our college is not one of the elite. And this must be accepted before going any further. Some may say I am being a pessimist. But I my defence must be that I am not a pessimist by choice, reality makes me so.
We must stop expecting that our college should be this and that and people thinks our college is this and that. Whatever our college is, we are a part of it now, and crying over spilled milk is not the way to meet what Providence has given us.
There is always room for improvement, and if there is not, then we cannot go lower any more. We must life head on with whatever we are equipped with. As I have written elsewhere, that valour first needs strength, and then a weapon. And it seems we may have lots of strength ( intelligence )but are a little short on this weapon ( first hand knowledge ).
So the only choice that remains is to use our brute strength and meet life head on and whatever outcome it may be, we can atleast say proudly that, we give all we had!!
Again, its not what was, not what is, but its all about what it will be and what it might become if and if we at this point of time decide to contribute to it, instead of just whining about our troubles, about what we don't have, about what should have been given to us by it.
By the way, you know what is "it". Right?!!

So, I must agree on what you say about visiting faculty, students and their outlook, the hostel, its recent problems, the LAN, internet, CGPA and all other things.
But then, as you only say, to succeed we need innovation and creativity and yes to some extent brilliance which you claim to be moved to the recycle bin. And on top of that, you say quote unless someone restores it , it ll be deleted forever. unquote So, I must ask who moved it to the recycle bin and who will restore it and who is going to empty your recycle bin(, you know permanently delete your brilliance). If you give it a sincere thought, the answer is nowhere to be found but in the mirror. Only you can do all of it. And my friend, innovation and creativity can not be taught to anybody. You either have it or you don't.
In the end, its you who has to do it, i.e., whatever you decide.....See, its always you.....
Do whatever, just don't throw your brilliance into dustbin.

Our college is not one of the elite. Yes it might be true. But remember, those which are elite were also not when they started.
And its us who are going to make it one of the elites.
Again reality doesn't have enough power on YOU to make you a pessimist. Its you yourself who have this power.
And even if we are short of a weapon, we can try to acquire it.
We just have to step ahead. Lying on our backs or roaming with our girlfriends is a good amusement, but we should not get distracted from the path which might lead us to acquiring the weapon or to glory or to the betterment of the institute in any way possible. Right!!
