Kashmir-God creates Man destroys
Its a common observed fact that whosoever goes to Kashmir realises that how the maxim of god being the creator, maintainer and destroyer has become obsolete now. It was god who created this valley but some bloody group of people have not spared any chance to destroy it. Kashmir is cradled in the lap of majestic mountains of the Himalayas, and is the most beautiful place on earth or atleast was a decade back. On visiting the Valley of Kashmir, Jehangir, one of the Mughal emperors, is said to have exclaimed: "If there is paradise anywhere on earth, it is here it is here, it is here."
But now the paradise has been turned into hell. Kashmir has a myth and history, , art and architecture, culture and tradition, and rituals that are distinct, yet similar to the civilization of the Indian subcontinent.
But during the 1990s with the emergence of the Islamic fundamentalists in Kashmir, the whole scenery has changed. And now the birdsong and murmur of gentle streams of yesteryears is replaced by the misery of physical and psychic violence instigated by the terrorists. People there are fearful and the Hindus are not at all able to live there now. The kashmiris want to part away from India but have no idea where do they want to go. The are equally critical of formation of a new state or joining Pakistan. Every year there is hullabaloo about the decrease in insurgency but these terrorist incidents come to haunt us time and again.
Most people know what factors led to upsurge in the militancy in the region but what people dont know is how has it been able to sustain itself for such a long time. Most of people earlier drew similarity from the Punjab militancy thinking that it will die its own death after 10 years but that didnot happen.
The reasons are aplenty the foremost being that noone wants it to end as the people who live in these areas are not at all affected by it. There is selective killing there with only non-muslims being killed. The muslims because of it recieve special treatment and take away all the jobs in the state and moreover being a militant informer pays them well. The mufti government implemented the 'healing touch' policy by giving a house and a job who would surrender. So the militant organisation gave away redundant guns to the people who then posed as militants wanting to surrender and walked away with a well built house and a job. In kashmir if you handover a grenade and Rs.500 to a teenager he would go and throw it at any place so why would the people want it to end.If anything offers you money and jobs as well as special treatment everybody would want it to go on till eternity. Moreover the Indian Army has not been given full powers and the local police helps the intruders getaway from captivation. The Indian government continues placating kashmiri people in the hope that they will stop supporting the so callled jehadis but that hasnt happened for these 16 years.
But most of the people are suffering and the persons benefitting from it are a very small group of people. But the irony is that noone can do anything except talk about it as the people making the decisions are asleep atleast in my books and the paradise is burning.
